Wanna talk to him about spring break... (: ? help please?

okay so spring break is almost over:'( and my crush, matthew has been in another country the whole time so i havent gotten to see him. I cant wait to see him when school starts again and i wanna ask him about his trip and the things he did and stuff. The perfect time to ask would before school (we get there like at least 15 mins early) but the main problem is his best friend, john. They both live far away from the school so they carpool and they always walk in together and he went on the trip too. I dont want to talk to john. I want to talk to matthew. How can i talk to just matthew? Please dont say try at lunch or in the halls or something. also i dont have any classes with him:( i have to approach him right then because after he will usually go and play bball before school.
