Carpooling situation?

So here's the deal: I carpool with this guy to work. I am the one that always drives and he pays me for gas since he doesn't have a car. He's a nice guy but he's been getting on my nerves a lot. We're on this internship together for the next 5 months and I don't know if I want to carpool with him for that long. I put about $40 of gas in my car every week and I would hate to pay for it all myself. However I hate having to wake up early to have to pick him up and wait for him when we get out of work (sometimes he's 20 minutes late). I've talked to him about it but nothing seems to change. He's not very good at conversations so the car ride is terrible except when he falls asleep. I think I would rather just drive alone but the whole commute and cost is deterring me. I just wanted other people's opinions on it. Thanks!
