Why do people take stereotpyes so seriously?

This just really bugs me but I dont get why people always get freaked out when people show racial stereortypes in movies and media and stuff. i know stereotypes are bad but seriously why do some people make such a big deal? im italian and italians are represented SO MUCH in movies in very stereotypical ways WAY more than blacks and asians, people just dont notice it cause italians never complained. i dont care and im not offended when i see italian steroetpyes but its just hippocrtical when people complain and not even notice other stereotpyes. italians are always portrayed as fat chefswith huge moustaches making "a spicy meat a balla" or "making a pizzza" or spaghetti or as fat mob bosses who are evil yet weak. it just bugs me because when people are complaining about how their race is so badly portrayed when italians have taken some of the most racism (mainly in movies). not that im offended but why do u think italians dont sue or cause a huge controversy when their culture is disgraced but other races do?
